SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF DISASTER RISK REDUCTION
The focus of the programme is on facilitating learning and action for DRR and capacity building of emergency response practitioners. Western Rajasthan is facing drought and so water and fodder support has been provided to the most vulnerable dalit households who many a times are unable to access relief provided by the government.

78 most vulnerable households from 23 villages are supported for construction of tankli. 125 households were provided water through tanker. 209 households with 1038 goats are given 250 gms of fodder for 90 days per goat. 46 participants from 29 NGOs attended one day workshops organised at Jodhpur and Barmer on district level mechanism and policy for disaster and various government schemes related to drought relief. For accountability in distribution of relief services and help the vulnerable groups access these services, a community based monitoring mechanism has been developed. Results are shared with government authorities.

Apart from drought, malaria epidemic is a major risk identified by the people. Vulnerable households living in dhanis do not get access to government services. Efforts are being made to develop women para-health workers in collaboration with SEWA, Ahmedabad. Three day training of 28 identified women was organized during Feb’10. They will undergo five rounds of trainings. They are currently mapping and assessing the services provided by government as well as the women and children in need of maternity, immunization and nutritional services.
