Dalit Rights
The strategy of the dalit adhikar abhiyan being
facilitated in three districts (Jodhpur, Badmer and
Jaiselner) in western Rajasthan through 12 dalit
resource centers has been revised to promote
leadership at the grassroots. A central management
committee has been formed comprising of
representatives from all organizations from each
block. Mr. Ganpatlal Mehra (IDEA) is the Chairperson
of this Committee and various sub-committees has
been formed for executing other functions. During
the quarter support was provided for, 2 cases of
discrimination in public places, 4 cases of
atrocities (including 2 cases of violence against
women) and six cases of land encroachment. A study
was undertaken in collaboration with Rajasthan
Mission on Livelihood, Jaipur (which is a Government
of Rajasthan initiative) on shifting livelihood
patterns of dalits in western Rajasthan On the issue
of access to water for the dalits, a workshop on
‘micro planning’ was organized followed by a micro
planning exercise in 4 villages. A workshop on
‘advocacy strategy for drought relief work’ was
organized to understand the government fund
allocation process and develop a strategy to
influence the same. As a follow-up for the flood
relief program in Badmer, in collaboration with our
partners, the process for constructing permanent
shelter for 201 households is being facilitated.
Gender
Mainstreaming
Gender Responsive Budgeting is a new are emerging in
the field of development hence, in order to build
our internal capacity a workshop was organized in
collaboration with the Swiss Development
Corporation. This workshop was facilitated by Ms.
Annemarie Sancar (Gender Advisor, SDC HO) and Ms.
Veronique Hulmann (Dept Country Director, SDC India)
in which 25 representatives from the government,
NGOs and INGOs participated. There was a suggestion
during the workshop to conduct such meetings
regularly for building the understanding of
representatives from the NGOs and the government.
Disability
In partnership with HI and Samarthya (New Delhi) three
day training was conducted for twenty participants from
Ahmedabad and Delhi on the technical aspects of creating
a barrier free built environment. The participants
included architects, planners, designers and civil
engineers. In the State level workshop on Rural Habitat
held at Ahmedabad, inputs were provided on incorporating
accessibility features in different aspects of rural
habitat.
Disaster Preparedness
In order to prepare community based disaster
preparedness plans at the community level, for Banyari
and Bhujpur villages in Bhachau (Kutchch), in
collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society,
Gujarat, a two days residential training program was
organized for the volunteers identified from 4 villages
(Lakhara, Banyari, Bhujpar and Bandhani). The aim was to
orient 50 participating volunteers on disaster
preparedness and first aid treatment to be given to the
injured during emergency situations. For 50 women
embroiders of Lakhara hamlet (Vandh) five-days
‘Production Workshop’ was conducted to enhance their
skill An exposure trip of 16 members of self groups from
3 villages (Nandgoan, Navagoan and Morgar) in Bhachau
taluks was organized and the visited the different units
in SEWA. |
